Types Of Arthritis

The word 'arthritis' has been derived from the Greek origin, 'Arthron' means joint and 'Itis' means inflammation. Joints, muscles and bones get severely affected due to this chronic disease. This monstrous disease actually breaks down cartilage, which acts as shock absorber and allows a smooth movement in the joints. There are many types of arthritis with show different symptoms, to treat each of them different treatments are available.

Some of the common types of arthritis include:-

Rheumatoid Arthritis

This one is not limited to a particular age, it can affect at any age though its major causes are still not detected. It is considered as a serious form of arthritis, as it leads to severe deformities in the joints added with weakness in the body. The symptoms seen in the affected bodies are of claw toes, hammer toes and many others which can paralyze the movement of the person permanently.


It is of the most common type of arthritis which leads to degenerative joint. Under this, a condition of inflammation of low grade is seen that results in painful joints which occur because cartilage which acts as cushion for joints, wears abnormally. As a result the movement of legs gets halted which worsens standing or walking.


The synonym of this form of arthritis is metabolic arthritis. Under this, a large proportion of uric acid gets elevated in blood stream and crystals of uric acid gets deposited on cartilage, surrounding tissues and tendons which invokes inflammatory reactions in these tissues. This form of arthritis is seen more commonly in men as compared to women.

Juvenile arthritis

This type of arthritis is mainly associated with children mostly below the age of 16 years. It may be chronic and transient and differs from the types of arthritis which are seen in adults. Its causes have not been detected so far but it has been analyzed through various studies that more of female children are victims than male ones.

Psoriatic arthritis

Psoriasis is associated with this form of arthritis, showing symptoms of swelling and pain in joints and developing patches of scaly skin on many parts of body. It has been observed that around 10 to 30 percent of people who suffer from psoriasis gets affected by this disease also. It can occur at any age but studies show that it mostly occurs between 20 and 50 years of age.

Though researches are being made to find a treatment to treat the problem completely but healthy food eating habits, regular exercises and reduction of stress can be advantageous to live a better life for an individual suffering from any form of arthritis.
